board game „Rationing”
This board game is called the younger sister of our board game “Queue”. Just like in “Queue”, players go back in the time of the communist regime where they must face the absurdities of socialist reality. Players have to buy goods for their guests but unfortunately shops are empty and goods are limited.
The graphic design of ”Rationing” is a continuation of the solutions adopted in “Queue”. Our goal was to capture the spirit of Polish People’s Republic by using specific typefaces, colours, patterns and production materials.
The illustrations were made using the technique of photo collage.
As our client was open to our ideas, we managed to deploy some interesting production solutions. For instance, we designed a small booklet covering the historical context of the game, using special binding and silkscreen technique for printing.
The first edition of “Rationing” was sold out within a few days. Up to now 20 000 copies have been sold. In 2015 the game was presented at the exhibition “Inside Out. Polish Graphic Design” in New York.
